In this video, I explore a protective part that was revealed in the mapping exercise, and had been "activated" - it was creating discomfort and unease inside of me. Exploration of the part reveals an unhealed exile part. The implicit awareness of the pain of the exiled part increased the protector activation, trying to block that awareness (distracting with physical anxiety symptoms and intrusive thoughts and worries).
For the protector part that was activated- the anxiety symptoms, intrusive thoughts, worry, and negative self-talk are preferable- less of a threat to the system (me)- than the deeper shame and pain of the exile. Even though what they are doing creates discomfort, it is done out of love and a desire to help or protect.
